Shaw House Event – Saturday 7 March 2026

Join us

Step back into the 17th century as the Earl Rivers Regiment returns to the beautiful Elizabethan manor of Shaw House, Newbury, to open its 2026 season. Once the Royalist Headquarters during the Second Battle of Newbury (1644), the house and its gardens provide the perfect backdrop for a full day of living history, displays, and family friendly activities.

Visitors can explore our Living History encampment, meet soldiers and civilians of the English Civil War, and enjoy a varied programme throughout the day. Expect weapons talks, pike and sword demonstrations, children’s activities, music and dancing, and a short memorial to honour members of the Regiment.

In the afternoon, the Regiment will stage a small skirmish inspired by the assault on Shaw House during the Second Battle of Newbury, followed by a raffle and a light hearted theatrical trial - ending, as tradition demands, with a firing squad finale.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, a family looking for a great day out, or simply curious about the English Civil War, Shaw House offers an engaging and atmospheric experience for all ages.
